North
Korea has been widely blamed for a recent series of cyber attacks which s
truck government and business Web sites in South Korea and the US, but Seoul has reported that the attacks originated from IP addresses in 16 countries. The recent set of attacks originated from 86 IP addresses in 16 countries, such as the US,
Japan,
China, Austria,
Germany, South Korea and Guatemala, according to the National Intelligence Service (NIS)."The NIS suspects North Korea or its sympathizers are behind the attacks but it says it cannot be sure until the ongoing probe is completed," AFP quoted Park Young-Sun from the Democratic Party.Proving North Korean involvement could be a difficult task due to the fact that none of the computers implicated in the attacks were located in North Korean territory. However, the NIS concluded that the attack could have North Korean origins due to a recent statement by Pyongyang in which he warned of cyber attacks.Experts said the attacks could have still come from North Korea, but the hackers may have used distant IP addresses to disguise their location.US officials said some of the IP addresses have been traced back to North Korea, according to the Associated Press."I'm just going to speak about our website, the state.gov website.
