Sony To Launch Download Service For TVs
A Sony Corp executive announced Friday that the company is set to launch a new online service next year which will allow customers to download content to a wide variety of its TVs and other devices.Sony Executive Vice President Kazuo Hirai said the company has plans to unveil a new online service where customers would have access to movies, books, music and other media content."This is something I'd like to get off the ground as quickly as possible," said Hirai."One of the things we really need to get into is the whole concept of user-driven content.""There already are a lot of services out there but we want to try to bring something that is uniquely Sony to the experience."The service would be built upon Sony’s PlayStation Network system, which already has 33 million registered users. The move represents Sony’s effort to increase brand loyalty as Sony said it hopes to gain a 20 percent share of the LCD TV market by April 2012.Last month, Sony reported its fourth consecutive quarterly loss.Hirai also mentioned the possibility for three-dimensional video games once the company launches its line of 3D televisions."I'm a firm believer in 3D.
